Calculate artist commissions instantly. Compare different split models and see what you (or your artists) take home per session, week, and month.
Enter your average session price, choose a commission split, and see what both the artist and studio earn. Adjust the sliders to compare different models — for example, a 70/30 split with an experienced artist vs a 50/50 split with an apprentice.
The most common commission split in tattoo studios is 60/40 (artist keeps 60%). However, splits vary based on experience, what the studio provides, and local market rates.
Most studios deduct supply costs before calculating commission. Common deductions include ink, needles, gloves, disposables, and credit card processing fees. Some studios also charge a flat "shop fee" per session.
InkFlow's POS system handles all these deductions automatically — no spreadsheet math required.
| Spreadsheets | InkFlow (Automated) | |
|---|---|---|
| Time per week | 2-3 hours | 2 minutes |
| Error rate | 5-10% | <0.1% |
| Supply deduction | Manual entry | Automatic |
| Per-artist rates | Complex formulas | Set once |

In a commission split, the artist earns a percentage of each session and the studio covers overhead (supplies, front desk, marketing). In booth rent, the artist pays a flat fee and keeps 100% of earnings but covers their own supplies and marketing.
Consider the artist's experience, their existing client base, what the studio provides (supplies, booking, marketing, front desk), and local market rates. Use this calculator to model different scenarios.
This is a studio policy decision. Some studios let artists keep 100% of tips, others include tips in the commission calculation. Whatever you choose, be transparent and consistent.
Turn meaning research into booked, managed, and aftercared clients.
Stop using spreadsheets. InkFlow calculates commissions automatically — per artist, per session, per product.
